WALLA WALLA -- A city woman was arrested after attempting to burn down the home of her estranged husband and his girlfriend Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Walla Walla police arrested Michelle G. Maurer, 36, at the home at 6 Whitman St.

Maurer broke into the home and poured two gallons of gasoline in the kitchen, according to a Walla Walla Police Department news release.

Maurer's estranged husband and his girlfriend returned around 2:45 p.m. while Maurer was still in the house, and Maurer attacked the other woman, according to the release.

Maurer was taken to a local hospital after the scuffle, police said. She was treated for injuries before being lodged in the Walla Walla County Jail on investigation of first-degree burglary and attempted first-degree arson, both felonies, as well as third-degree malicious mischief, a misdemeanor.
