TEKOA - The Pomeroy girls took a hit to their state tournament hopes Wednesday, dropping a 51-30 decision to Tekoa-Oakesdale in the first round of the Southeast 1B district basketball tournament.

The Pirates struggled offensively, hitting just 11 buckets on the night.

Delaney Monahan led Pomeroy with seven points on the night.

"We had a tough time shooting tonight," Pomeroy coach Nettie Severs said. "We couldn't get them to fall from the free throw line or the field. We battled hard in the first half when they were shooting the ball extremely well. In the second half their shooting cooled off, but then they outrebounded us on the offensive end of the floor."

Pomeroy faces the winner of a match between Garfield-Palouse and Colton Friday night in the first round of the losers' bracket on Tuesday in Endicott.
