WALLA WALLA - A lockdown at Washington State Penitentiary will continue into next week, prison officials have said.
The lockdown affects the prison's four West Complex living units, which each house about 187 close-custody prisoners. The rest of the penitentiary is operating normally.
All four units, Delta, Echo, Fox and Golf, were locked down following a fight last Saturday night in the commons area of Echo unit.
The fight involved four inmates armed with handmade sharpened weapons. When correctional officers moved in to break up the fight, they were assaulted by two of the prisoners.
The assaults injured four officers, who were later treated and released at a local hospital. A total of six prisoners were placed in segregation after the fight, which is being investigated by local law enforcement and prison officers.
All four units have been on lockdown since the fight.
