March 18, 1919 - Feb. 10, 2012
Kenneth (Ken) William Drahos of Walla Walla was called home by his Lord on Feb 10, 2012, at the Washington Odd Fellows Home at age 92. Ken was born March 18, 1919, in Huron, S.D., the son of Joseph and Clara (Anderson) Drahos. His family moved to Puyallup, Wash., where he attended high school. From there he moved to Missoula, Mont., where he attended the University of Montana on an athletic scholarship. He majored in forestry and specialized in timber management. He was drafted by the New York Giants, but elected to complete his education.
In his first position with the U.S. Forest Service he cruised and scaled timber and fought forest fires. This took him to South Central Alaska, where he met his wife, Marian, of 62 years. They were transferred to Southeast Alaska, where they started their family. Continuing his career he was transferred to Oregon, where after 30 years he retired in Lakeview, Ore., after working for the Fremont National Forest. Because he was always civic minded, he volunteered with the local fire department/EMT, and Ken also was member of Toastmasters and Kings Men of the Presbyterian Church. After retiring, they made their home in Milton-Freewater, then moved to Walla Walla, and joined the Odd Fellows family where he continued helping people because this was part of his Christian walk in his life. Ken enjoyed woodworking, a free cup of coffee, and due to his strong patriotism, always supported the military.
Ken was survived by his children, Gaynel Troyer of Umapine, Bruce Drahos of Camdon, N.C., Janet Faure of Juneau, Alaska, Ruth E. Drahos of Daleville, Ala., and Kimberly M. Divis of Fayetteville, Ark.; nine grandkids and five great-grandkids. Ken continued to be the glue to the family after Marian passed and was proud of all they have accomplished.
You are welcome to attend the graveside services to be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at the Milton-Freewater Cemetery. There will be a memorial service held in his honor on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, followed by an ice cream social from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Washington Odd Fellows Home game room in Walla Walla. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Odd Fellows Endowment Fund in memory of Ken Drahos, Washington Odd Fellows Home, 534 Boyer Ave., Walla Walla, WA 99362. The family wishes to extend its gratitude for all the kindness that Odd Fellows showed Ken, Marian and their family during their time here. xx
