WALLA WALLA -- The lockdown of the Washington State Penitentiary's West Complex will continue through Wednesday, prison officials said today.
Prisoners in the four West Complex living units, Delta, Echo, Fox and Golf, will remain locked in their cells with all work, education and recreational activities cancelled. Visiting to the entire complex is also cancelled.
The four units were placed in lockdown on the night of Feb. 4 following a fight in the commons area of Echo unit. Four correctional officers were injured as they broke up the fight, which involved four inmates with handmade sharpened weapons.
Each West Complex living unit houses about 187 close-custody prisoners. The rest of the penitentiary is operating normally, according to the prison's web site.
