Members of the City Council are Christine Broughton, Kathy Berg, Terry Herrin, Charlie Button, Jim Cooper and Delphine Bailey. One seat is vacant. Mayor is Craig George. With Broughton absent Monday the council:

  • FIRE DEPARTMENT: Learned Fire District 3 has acquired equipment to detect presence of flammable gas and heat. Fire Chief Rich Turner told the council the department bought the gas detection equipment following an incident where a gas water heater leaked in the basement of the high school gymnasium. Turner also gave the council a report on fire calls for 2011.

  • POOL FEES: Discussed raising swimming pool fees for 2012.

  • FLOOD CONTROL: George read a letter from the Federal Emergency Management Agency thanking the city for perseverance in remediation of the National Flood Insurance Program. A barrier of ecology block, installed in 1997, was recently removed as a result of the city's work with the property owner. The city is now in compliance with the flood insurance program, George said.
