Garfield County Commissioners are Dean Burton, Wynne McCabe and Robert Johnson. With all present Monday commissioners:

  • MITIGATION: Met with representatives of Puget Sound Energy, Blue Mountain Community Foundation and the state department of Fish and Wildlife to discuss how to manage $165,500 PSE is giving for habitat mitigation for the Lower Snake River Wind Project. The money will be spent over a 30-year period. It was decided to set up management of the funds with some flexibility. A five-person committee will review grant proposals. The committee will include representatives from PSE and Fish and Wildlife, and one county commissioner, plus two other Garfield County residents associated with wildlife habitat. Grants will be available for anything related to protection and enhancement of wildlife habitat in Garfield County.

  • CHIP SEAL OIL: Opened two bids for 190 tons of CRS-2P chip seal oil. Bids were $639.47 per ton from Western States Asphalt Inc. of Spokane, and $644.87 per ton from Idaho Asphalt Supply Inc. of Hauser, Idaho. Commissioners referred the bids to the county engineer for review.

  • PLANNING: Discussed a letter from the City of Pomeroy notifying the county of the city's desire to terminate the city's involvement with the Board of Adjustment, but continue to be involved in the joint planning commission. Commissioners discussed whether some applications for variances can be handled without using the Board of Adjustment, because of the cost involved. Commissioners decided to make a counter-proposal to the city.

  • EXTENSION: Signed an agreement with Washington State University to provide $15,825 towards the salary of the extension agent. This is the same rate the county has paid for the last four years.
