PRINEVILLE - Mac-Hi qualified six wrestlers for next weekend's Class 4A state championships during regional action that wrapped up here Saturday at Crook County High School.
A pair of Pioneers - Ryan Bullock (152 pounds) and Francisco Saldana (160) - claimed regional titles by going undefeated in their respective weight classes. Saldana went 4-0 and Bullock was 3-0. Both wrestlers won each of their matches by pin.
Taylor Hodgen (182) placed second while two others - Tavis Hodgen and Patrick Sheets - finished third at 132 and 145 pounds, respectively.
Chandler Fortune (126) rounded out the list of Mac-Hi grapplers headed to state. He registered a fourth-place finish.
At 138, sophomore Blake Yensen came within one victory of qualifying for state, but settled for sixth place.
"I'm very happy and excited for the kids who made it (to state)," Mac-Hi coach Beau Chester said. "It was great, awesome. Ryan and Francisco wrestled amazing. Tavis, Patrick and Chandler wrestled the best I've seen them wrestle all year. Taylor getting into the finals was special for him."
Host Crook County, which qualified 22 wrestlers for state, won the team title with 494 points. Ontario was second in the eight-team field with 197, La Grande was third with 194, LaPine was next with 159.5 points, and Mac-Hi was fifth with 145.
The Class 4A state meet runs next Friday and Saturday at Portland's Memorial Coliseum.
