Warrior women rout Big Bend, 77-55

MOSES LAKE - Tai Jensen scored 20 points and Hailey Felgenhauer added 13 here Saturday afternoon to lead Walla Walla Community College to a 77-55 rout of Big Bend in NWAACC Eastern Region women's basketball action.

The Warriors, No. 4 in the latest NWAACC coaches poll, improved to 9-3 in league play and 18-6 overall. They will enter the final week of Eastern Region play next week in a second-place tie with Yakima Valley.

WWCC, which shot 53 percent (30-of-57) from the field, connected on 16-of-30 field-goal tries in the first half and 14-of-27 after intermission.

"We came out with a lot of energy and got a lead right away, and continued to increase it," WWCC coach Bobbi Hazeltine said. "Tai and Stevie (Humphries) played well inside. Stevie gave us good minutes and, in the second half, Tai took them apart inside."

Jensen and Humphries held one of BBCC's top scorers, forward Alli Nielsen, to 10 points in the game.

Big Bend made just 36 percent (22-of-61) of its shots from the floor. Siena Edmunson limited the Vikings' leading scorer, Allie Kelsey, to just four points on 2-for-5 shooting.

"Siena played a great game," Hazeltine said. "She defended better than she ever has. She pressured Kelsey and made her take tough shots."

Hazeltine also praised guard Janae Klarich, who tallied eight points in the contest.

Walla Walla outrebounded the Vikings, 46-32, led by Jensen's nine. It dished out 20 assists and were paced by Edmunson's game-high seven.

"We played better than we have in a while," Hazeltine said. "We worked hard this week on defense. I like how we played. I like how hard we played for 40 minutes. It was a total team effort."

The Warriors host Blue Mountain Wednesday at 6 p.m.
