Whitman College student Mary Allain is collecting research for her senior thesis project, "Employment Opportunities and Support Services for Adults with Autism."

She is seeking to interview 15 young adults with autism and members of their families.

She will collect narratives about the experiences of young adults on the autism spectrum transitioning out of school and into adulthood.

"I wish to gather information about experiences adults with ASD have securing grants and vocational rehabilitation services, and their participation in government-funded programs," Mary said in an email.

She will ask about their employment history and/or job prospects and work experiences and how these factors have shaped their lives.

She said her study will help identify insufficiencies or gaps and successes in programs and services provided for adults with ASD.

Those interested in being interviewed may respond at their earliest convenience to Mary by phone at 425-736-9652 or allainme@whitman.edu.

The YWCA and Walla Walla Union-Bulletin have worked together cooperatively since the Y was founded in 1917. The Y recently gave a Community Partner Award to the U-B for this longstanding partnership. The Y cited the newspaper for raising awareness about domestic violence and sexual assault through its coverage as well as the advertising support the U-B gives to the Y for its programs as part of its community support program.
