Man killed in morning wreck


UPDATED AT 3:46 P.M., 2/27/12:

MILTON-FREEEWATER — Oregon State Police have identified the victim of an early-morning crash as a Walla Walla man.

Enrique Gonzales, 61, was the driver of a pickup truck involved in the 6:50 a.m. crash on Highway 11 near Ferndale Road.

Police said Gonzales’ truck was southbound on the highway when it went out of control on the ice-covered roadway. The pickup spun around as it crossed the highway, tripped over the east-side curb, went airborne, landed on its passenger side and crashed into a concrete wall.

Gonzales was pronounced dead at the scene. He was using safety restraints, police said.

An investigation into the accident is continuing. Northbound traffic was closed intermittently until the highway was opened about 11:30 a.m.


MILTON-FREEWATER -- An unidentified man died in a vehicle rollover early this morning, according to Oregon State Police.

The man appeared to be heading south on Highway 11 when he lost control of his small pickup before 7 a.m., and slammed into a concrete barrier on the opposite side of the highway, just south of Ferndale Road, officials said. Police had not released the man's name or further details by press time today.
