Jan. 7, 1936 - Dec. 15, 2011
Betty Jean Franklin passed away in Hermiston, on Dec. 15, 2011. Betty was born on Jan. 7, 1936, to Frank and Mabel Holmes in Orient, S.D., on the family sheep ranch. At a young age, Betty moved with her family to Dixie, where she attended schools. It was here that Betty met her future husband, Richard Dean Peterson. Together they raised three sons and a daughter, Robert, Donald, Vicky Lynn and Gary. Later on Betty's fourth son was born, Michael.
After this marriage ended in divorce, Betty attended the Walla Walla Community College nursing program and received her degree and nursing license in 1970. During her nursing career in Walla Walla, she met and married Alvin Franklin in 1973. Betty retired from the nursing profession in 2000 and devoted her time to family and friends, especially her beloved grandchildren. She loved the Oregon Coast and spent many glorious vacations there.
Betty is survived by her four sons and their wives, Robert and Anne of Hermiston, Donald and Sandie of Spokane, Gary and Jessica of Red Lodge, Mont., and Michael and Laura of Hermiston; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mabel; brothers, Benjamin and William; daughter, Vicky Lynn; and husband Alvin Franklin.
At Betty's request, there will be no funeral service. A family gathering will be held later for immediate family.
