Walla Walla chamber fetes community stalwarts


WALLA WALLA - People whose behind-the-scenes service has touched the lives of others throughout the community were honored at the Walla Walla Valley Chamber of Commerce's 129th annual Awards Banquet on Nov. 30.

"You're going to hear 'Thank you' a lot tonight," David Woolson, Chamber president and chief executive, told nearly 300 people in the Marcus Whitman Hotel & Conference Center ballroom. "There are so many who have given so much to the community."

The awards and recipients were:

Walla Walla Valley Chamber of Commerce Awards of Merit: Jill Zagelow and the Rev. Ernie Campbell. The award recognizes overall continuous community service for a span of 15 or more years.

Walla Walla Valley Chamber of Commerce Spirit of Excellence Awards: Shannon Bergevin and Shontina Gianotti Coers. The award recognizes leadership and devoted service to the Chamber and its membership.

Walla Walla Community College Community Service Award: Julie Jones, instructor and choir leader.The award is given to a college employee who has given significantly to the community through outstanding service and volunteer work.

Walla Walla University Community Service Award: Professor and Dean of the School of Social Work Pamela Cress. The award is given to a faculty or staff member who demonstrates significant commitment to service in the Valley.

Whitman College Pete & Hedda Reid Awards: Patrick Henry and Tana Park. The award is given to faculty or staff who have contributed notable service to the Walla Walla community.
