WALLA WALLA - Torri Crawford scored 18 points while MiKayla Ferenz and Maddie Jacobson added 12 and 10, respectively, to lead Wa-Hi to a 73-37 victory over Davis in a Big Nine Conference girls basketball game Friday night in the Blue Devil gym.

Crawford made eight of her 10 shots on the night. Both Ferenz and Jacobson sank 5-of-7 tries from the field.

The Pirates took their only lead of the game when Heidi Ceja broke a scoreless tie with two free throws at the 6:57 mark of the first quarter.

Jacobson tied the game with a jumper 41 seconds later and Allie Greene dropped in a free throw at the 5:27 mark to give the Blue Devils the lead for keeps.

The Jacobson and Greene tallies began a 12-1 Wa-Hi run. Maddy Sirmon scored two baskets during the spurt and Jaiden Hodnefield added a 3-point field goal as the Blue Devils built a 12-3 lead.

Following a Ceja bucket with 2:16 on the clock, Wa-Hi ended the period on a 10-2 surge highlighted by back-to-back 3s off the finger tips of Libbie Jimenez and Ferenz.

Crawford scored six points in the second quarter and the Blue Devils raised their lead to 24, 38-14, on a pair of charity tosses by Maddie Doepker with 3:33 left.

Wa-Hi led 38-20 at halftime.

A Greene jumper at the 1:58 mark of the third quarter increased the Blue Devils' margin to 30 points, 56-26. They led 56-28 after three.

Wa-Hi twice claimed a lead of 38 points in the final quarter. A Crawford layin with 3:30 remaining made the score 69-31 and Ferenz gave the Blue Devils a 71-33 advantage on a drive at the 2:34 mark.

"I was proud of them." Wa-Hi coach Jill Meliah said. "The sign of a good team is to get up on (an opponent) and put them away. In the second half, we did that."

The Blue Devils won convincingly despite the absence of starting guard Andrea Hamada due to a softball commitment in California. Wa-Hi also played much of the contest without starter Kiana Molitor, who suffered a head injury two-and-a-half minutes into the opening period.

"They are the front anchor of our zone and our press," Meliah said. "It was great to see other kids step up and play quality minutes."

Sirmon secured a game-high eight rebounds and Ferenz distributed an equal number of assists in the game for Wa-Hi.

Meliah said she expected Molitor to suit up when the Blue Devils traveled to Wenatchee Saturday night.
