TACOMA - Point guard Jenele Peterson scored 15 points and handed out a career-high nine assists to spark Whitman College to a 64-48 Northwest Conference victory Saturday night in Tacoma.

Whitman, now 2-2 in conference and 6-7 overall, seized the upper hand early in the first half, using a 13-0 scoring spree to build a 22-8 cushion after 10 minutes of play.

The Missionaries later closed out the half on a 7-2 run, extending their lead to 41-24 at the break.

Pacific Lutheran, which slipped to 1-3 in the NWC and 4-9 overall, drew no closer than 11 points in the second half and trailed by as many as 18.

Peterson, who passed the 1,000-point career scoring plateau in Friday's victory at Puget Sound, also grabbed five rebounds and two steals to help Missionaries dismantle Pacific Lutheran.

Sarah Anderegg, a 6-foot-2 sophomore, came off the Whitman bench to score 10 points and block two shots at the defensive end.

Missionary defenders harried the Lutes into 25 turnovers, outscoring their hosts 28-8 in points off turnovers. The Whitman bench outscored its counterpart by a 24-0 margin.

Meghan White, a 6-foot sophomore, snared five rebounds and was one of three Missionaries to finish with eight points and two blocked shots.

Junior guard Kelly Peterson, who pocketed three of Whitman's 11 steals, also had eight points, three rebounds and three assists. Senior wing Anna Forge combined eight points with four boards.

Forward Mary Madden and guard Jennifer Keyes added to the balanced attack with six points apiece. Madden swatted away a pair of shots while both Keyes and Kelly Peterson drained two 3-point shots.

Whitman, which has won its last four meetings with Pacific Lutheran, shots 44.2 percent from the floor while making five of 15 three-point attempts and 13 of 17 free throws.

Shelly Kilcup, one of only four Lutes to make the scoring column, had a team-high 13 points. Katelyn Smith and Samantha Potter added 12 points apiece while Sara Backstrom chipped in with 11.

In Friday's win over the Loggers, Jennifer Keyes hit two clutch 3-pointers and Kelly Peterson knocked down four straight free throws, and the Missionaries held off Puget Sound for a 76-68 victory to open the Tacoma road trip.

Whitman returns home next weekend to host Linfield at 6 p.m. Friday and Pacific at 5 p.m. Saturday.
