Speaking of heritage, happy 150th birthday WW

Walla Walla will officially be 150 years old Wednesday.

On Jan. 11, 1862, the Washington Territorial Legislature approved the city's charter.

To commemorate the city's sesquicentennial, the Fort Walla Walla Museum Living History Company will bring to life five historical figures who lived around the time the city's charter was signed.

They include the city's first mayor, E.B. Whitman; two of the first council members, John Abbott and William Phillips; a madam, Josephine Wolfe; and road builder John Mullan.

All five character will all take part in a short presentation at Wednesday City Council meeting at 15 N. Third Ave., 7 p.m.

The meeting is open to the public.
