WALLA WALLA -- The Kirkman House Museum may be closed for public tours until March 1, but activity continues.
The museum serves as a place to hold small gatherings and is in the midst of a top-to-bottom cleaning, reorganizing working spaces and processing new donations for inclusion in the permanent displays.
A recent grant from the Blue Mountain Community Foundation is going toward the permanent collections interpretation. Once the museum opens in March visitors will be able to take a self-guided tour and get almost all the information the guided tour provides.
The museum took advantage of Black Friday sales and bought a 32-inch television to show its video on the life of William Kirkman. Another grant from the Daughters of the American Revolution provided partial funding for restoration of the kitchen windows.
The bulk of this work has been completed with only cosmetics left for warmer weather in the spring. This window work was done by MillWork Custom Woodworking from Zillah. Wash.
