I have two teenaged daughters who are happy, healthy and doing well in school. They are both looking forward to college educations and careers. I give a lot of credit for that to the Walla Walla School District and that's why I urge you to vote "yes" for the replacement levy.
I know that no school or teacher is perfect - as a longtime volunteer, I see the district's strengths and weaknesses close up - but our school district has done a darn good job for my kids and many others. Throughout their school years (from Green Park to Walla Walla High School) my daughters have had teachers who challenged, encouraged and even inspired them.
The replacement levy is just that, a replacement for the current levy and would cost essentially the same as the levy we passed four years ago. It would maintain funding at the current level for programs and services all our kids want and need, such as: librarians, nurses, PE teachers, music teachers and extra-curricular activities such as sports, drama and FFA.
I know kids are in school for an education, but many of them need a little fun like music or a club to keep them motivated. Plus, there are lots of lessons to be learned outside of the classroom. For example, kids in the debate club improve their research, writing, analyzing and speaking skills.
So please, on Feb. 14, vote yes on the school levy, and show your love for your children, your school district and your community.
