Sterling Savings Bank will host a grand-opening celebration of its newest branch Friday.

The Spokane-based bank will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon to celebrate its latest Walla Walla area branch, 680 W. Rose St.

Officially open for business since Dec. 1, the branch embodies the company's "convenience center" model, with three drive-through lanes with extended hours.

As part of the celebration, Sterling will continue its plan to split $5,000 among three local nonprofit organizations. Representatives of Blue Mountain Action Council, Children's Home Society and Helpline will attend the event.

Sterling officials will give $2,500 to the first-place charity, as voted by local residents. The second-place winner will get $1,500; and $1,000 will go to the third-place winner. Friday will be the last day to vote for one of the charities.

Ballots are available at the Main Street, Rose Street and College Place branches but must be dropped off at the new branch.

Friday's celebration runs until 1:30 p.m. and include refreshments.

Hours of operation for the convenience center are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday for the lobby; and 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday for the drive-through.
