LETTERS TO THE EDITOR - Religion will again be an issue

With presidential politics now in full swing, the phrase "separation of church and state" will be shoved down our throat again and again. That statement has always bothered me because it's a lie, deceptive propaganda.

If you take a true definition of the church, the church is the people, not the building, no matter what denomination you attend. If the church is the people, then how do you divide the people from their faith?

If a person of faith enters politics how can you separate that person from his/her faith or for that matter from the state? Is there a special knife that can do this job?

This whole idea is an oxymoron. The First Amendment to the Constitution gave us the freedom of speech and religion. The phrase "separation of church and state" is not in the Constitution or the Bill of Rights. Just because the Supreme Court justices placed a sticky note over the First Amendment with their new definition and struck down prayer in school does not make it right.

The phrase "separation of church and state" is a complete contradiction to the First Amendment's "freedom of speech and religion."

What the Constitution does separate is "the state from the church." You cannot separate the church from the state but you can keep the state out of the church and our private lives.

The Constitution states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise there of; or abridging the freedom of speech ..." When the Supreme Court struck down prayer in schools it established a religion of atheism and denied us the free exercise of our faith and we sat idly by doing nothing about it.

Our ignorance of our Constitution will be our downfall and loss of our basic freedoms. The first line of the Constitution says, "We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union ..."

We the people are the last say, not the Congress or the Supreme Court, but we need to speak up when we are fed deceptive propaganda. The Bible says "my people are destroyed for their lack of knowledge."

If what I have said makes sense, then there is hope. If you disagree then we are in a world of hurt. It is to our advantage to keep the state out and keep our faith in.

Be informed before you cast your vote and seek God in all you do. May this year be a blessing to all!
