POMEROY - Pomeroy took a step toward ensuring its post-season life here Saturday in Southeast 1B girls basketball action.

The Pirates took a 9-3 lead after one and extended that margin to post a 45-20 win over Lacrosse-Washtucna.

"It was one of those games where we weren't sure what we would get after several snow days and no practice," Pirates coach Nettie Severs said. "It was a must win for us if we want to be in the top six (in league). If we beat Touchet, we will be guaranteed a spot in district. The girls played hard and jumped out to an early lead, and everyone got playing time."

The Pirates had four scorers in double digits. Savanah Ruark led the way with a double-double, 11 points and 10 rebounds. McKenzie Uto and Tori Koller added 11 points each, and MacKenzie Monahan scored 10 points.

The Pirates travel to Asotin for a non-league game Tuesday before hosting Garfield-Palouse Friday in a league match up.
