WAITSBURG -- The State Auditor's Office's Dec. 28 accountability audit report for the city shows the city's internal controls are adequate to safeguard public assets, and that the city complied with state laws and regulations and its own policies and procedures during the period audited, Jan. 1, 2008, through Dec. 31, 2010.

Areas examined for the two-year period were open public meetings/records law; procurement (bidding/prevailing wage); financial viability; disbursements/expenditures; compliance with federal grant requirements and cost allocations.

For fiscal years 2008, 2009 and 2010 the city operated on an annual budget of approximately $1.5 million. During a span of seven years and three audits, the city has received one audit finding, which has been resolved, according to the audit report.
