Wanda M. Walker, age 88, passed away Jan. 14, 2012, at her home in Dayton. Wanda was born March 23, 1923, at La Grande, Ore., to Leo and Trilby Rose May Greiner. She moved with her family at the age of 5 to Columbia County. She spent most of her primary school years on Robenette, Mont. Her family then moved to the North Touchet area where she completed the eighth grade at Pine Grove School. Wanda attended high school while working for her room and board. She graduated from Dayton High School in 1941.
She married Lesta Walker of Dayton on Nov. 20, 1941. Lesta preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 1994. They spent an inseparable 52 years of married life. Wanda worked for the Pacific Telephone Company from 1941 to 1961 until the local office went dial. She helped Lesta at the Millstream Lanes Bowling Alley from 1951 to 1973 and Walker`s Custom Meats, besides working seasonal for the Green Giant CO., as a PBX operator/receptionist from 1961 until her retirement. Wanda had many hobbies, gardening, canning, sewing, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. She and Lesta spent much time enjoying our Blue Mountains.
Wanda is survived by her daughters, Lawana Harting and Lorraine (Cecil) Bramhall; and two sisters, Velma Bond and Pat Preston, all of Dayton. She has four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband; one sister; and two grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at a later date. xx
