LA GRANDE - Mac-Hi's boys had some positive performances, but dropped their Greater Oregon League basketball game to La Grande here Tuesday night, 69-35.

The Pioneers trailed 13-8 after the opening eight minutes, but La Grande rode a 10-0 second-quarter run to take a 34-18 halftime lead.

"In the first half we played really well," Mac-Hi coach Curtis Carlson said. "We were playing really good defense. You take out the 10-0 run and we're within striking distance.

"In the second half, they ended up pulling away," he said. "We didn't have enough scorers. Eleven of their guys scored, and only six of ours did."

Jesse Field and Derek Richwine led Mac-Hi with eight points apiece, while Loran Ackerman and Jordan Rogers put up 12 each for La Grande.

The Pioneers, now 0-3 in GOL play and 0-15 overall, travel to Ontario for a 5:30 p.m. Mountain Time game.

"It's just a confidence thing," Carlson said of Mac-Hi pursuing its first win. "I'm trying to get them to believ in themselves. They can compete with anybody, they just need to be aggressiv when they have the ball. We're showing flashes of what kind of team we can be, and one of these games things are going to go our way."
