Richard Gullixson of Woodburn, Ore., and formerly of Milton-Freewater passed away on Jan. 19, 2012, at the age of 93 years. An inurnment will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Milton-Freewater Cemetery followed by a memorial service at the Grace Presbyterian Church in Milton-Freewater at 2 p.m. Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, Ore., is in charge of the arrangements.
Richard Gullixson was born Oct. 6, 1918, in Tacoma, the son of Arthur and Ida (Moehler) Gullixson. He served in the military during World War II. Richard attended Officer's Candidate School and received his captain's bars from Gen. McArthur. He married Virginia Bowman in Salem, Ore., in 1943. After graduation from Oregon State in 1948 he was hired by the Walla Walla District U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, and retired from there in 1979 as the chief of foundations and materials. Richard was a member of the Grace Presbyterian Church, American Legion, Military Officers Association of America and United States Geological Society.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Virginia, of Woodburn; his daughter, Laurie Gullixson Smith of Woodburn; and two grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his only son, Richard Gullixson. xx
