Letters To The Editor - Institution of marriage will be compromised

James Madison authored the following words. "We have staked the whole of our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government, upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God."

I fear for our country as I watch the loss of our self-control, as I watch our leadership subvert the constitutional rights of our citizenry in support of special interest persons as they strip the rights of God-fearing people to practice the faith in which they believe.

The editor's column supporting gay marriage only advances this, the loss of the ability for each of us to govern ourselves according to God's will.

If legal marriage rights are extended to those of the same sex, the institution of marriage is compromised and becomes no longer valid. The oath of marriage is before God and man, or it is not marriage and it is not valid no matter what the law says. If instituted, the law becomes meaningless and the state should get out of the marriage business.
