With nearly 25 percent of the Dayton School District's budget having to be covered by the local citizenry, the state clearly has not met its constitutional mandate to fund basic education. With that in mind, I am voting "yes" in support of Dayton's Feb. 14th supplemental education levy.
The funds are needed to ensure that students have adequate facilities, support programs and curriculum materials to prepare them for a world that will be diametrically different than the world of generations past.
The finances are for bare bones education needs and hopefully within the life of the levy the state Legislature, with the prodding of the Supreme Court, will eliminate the need for future local block disbursements.
Remember, we wisely invest in our community and ourselves when we invest in our youths. They are more than worth it.
