Workshop series to focus on strengthening families

WALLA WALLA - A series of workshops geared for parents and focused on strengthening families is being offered by the Moms' Network starting in February.

The first workshop, "Resilience Trumps Trauma," will be held Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Walla Walla YMCA.

Mark Brown and Teri Barila of the Children's Resilience Initiative will discuss how parents can foster resilience in their own children to make them stronger individuals. They will also discuss the local resources available to families and how to access them.

The second workshop will be March 21, with a "Mom to Mom" talk by local mom Terri Neal.

The series concludes April 16 with "Yoga Stretches for Moms" with yoga instructor Rebecca Thorpe.

All workshops will be held at the YMCA.

The workshops are meant to provide useful information while creating an open dialogue for parents. They are free and open to the public with free child care available each night. Spanish-language translation will also be provided at each event.
