WALLA WALLA - The cause of a power failure for 1,786 businesses and residences Friday afternoon will most likely remain a mystery.
Pacific Power spokesperson Jan Mitchell said a circuit at a nearby substation was tripped around 3 p.m., causing power failures from Pine Street to Alder Street and Eighth Avenue to Colville Street.
"In a lot of these cases we just don't find out the cause ... It could have been a contact from an animal momentarily or a branch, but we just don't know what it was that tripped it," Mitchell said.
The power failure was over around 3:40 p.m., after crews reset and tested the circuit at the substation.
