Construction workers add to the building of the new Social Security Administration building on Rose Street in College Place. Thursday, June 21, 2012

What: A new Social Security office at

880 N.E. Rose St., College Place

Details: Developer Rick Coulter said the area's Social Security office is relocating from Main Street in Walla Walla to the new building in College Place.

"The building is much more secure for the employees," he said.

At 4,600 square feet, the new building will be larger and provide for a more efficient work flow.

It more effectively adheres to new security regulations for government buildings, according to Coulter. Clients will interact with employees through a window.

Coulter builds the buildings and then leases them to the government.

Timeline: Coulter said work began in April and is expected to be completed in late September or early October.

Permitted cost: $400,000.

Contractor: MH Construction, Kennewick.
