Walla Walla — Former area resident Kevin Carson will sign copies of his book about the Nez Perce War, "The Long Journey of the Nez Perce," at 1 p.m. Saturday at Book & Game Company, 38 E. Main St.
A former combat engineer, Carson illustrated the book with maps of the terrain and battles. The book recently received a recommendation from American History Magazine which called it "insightful and heartbreaking." The book is published by Westholme Publishing and printed by the University of Chicago Press.
Carson is a 1976 graduate of Dayton High School who and attended school elementary and junior high school in Walla Walla.
He studied at Walla Walla Community College for a year before attending Washington State University.
His parents live in Dayton.
