Albert "Al" Leichner

Albert "Al" Henry Leichner passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, July 13, 2012, at the University of Washington Medical Center at the age of 81. Al was born Dec. 20, 1930, to Hattie and Henry Leichner in Walla Walla, the oldest of three children. Al graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1949 and later attended Whitman College, where he met the love of his life, Maryann Marlowe. Al and Maryann were married on Sept. 18, 1955, in Walla Walla and moved to Seattle, where Al graduated from the University of Washington, receiving his master's degree and later became a CPA.

Al and Maryann had three children and raised their family on Mercer Island, Wash. Al enjoyed a long career with Boeing, where he worked as an accountant/auditor for more than 35 years and retired in 1992.
Al had a love for learning and the performing arts. He enjoyed singing in many choirs. Al was very active throughout his life and enjoyed skiing, camping, hiking, sea kayaking, biking and cruising around the world. Al had many yearly traditions with wonderful friends including fishing in Alaska and skiing at Red Mountain, Canada, and Sun Valley, Idaho. Al had a passion for baking, especially for his family and riends, who loved his apple skivers, cinnamon rolls, muffins and donuts.

Al was an active member of Saint Monica Catholic Church on Mercer Island and enjoyed many activities and traveling with the Saint Monica and Saint Louise parish communities. Al had a big heart and smile and shared his kind spirit with many organizations, including SKIBACS, Ski for All, Skihawks, Special Olympics, Boy Scouts of America, Friends of the Library book drives among many more. Al would also share his talents by helping family and friends with their taxes every year. Al touched the lives of so many with his jovial personality and warm heart.

Al was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Maryann. Al is survived by his daughters, Karen Hartman (Don) and Sarah Leichner (Pat Davies); son, David Leichner (Karla); grandchildren, Dakota, Sierra, Karver, Abagail and Blake; sisters, Cordelia Hull and Bertha Barlow; and a large extended family.

A Catholic funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 23, at Saint Monica Catholic Church, 4301 88th Avenue SE, Mercer Island, followed by a reception for family and friends in the church family center. Cremation has taken place and he will be interned in Walla Walla with his wife, Maryann. Donations in Al's name may be made to
