Friends of Acoustic Music to host contra dance at Whitman Mission

— Walla Walla Friends of Acoustic Music's traditional old-time contra dance will be 7:30 p.m. Saturday on the lawn at Whitman Mission National Historic Site, 328 Whitman Mission Road.

The group's annual potluck dinner will start at 6 p.m. and dancers are invited to bring a food item to share and to enjoy a dinner at the historic site.

This year the Oregon State Wagon Train from Baker City will be encamped on the grounds too.

Contras, squares, and other dances will be taught by caller Howard Ostby; no previous experience is necessary to participate.

There will be instruction for beginners. Live music will be provided by the Wednesday Night Band. Watermelon will be provided.

There is no admission charged and the dancing is open to the public. For more information, call Ostby at 541-938-7403.
