LETTERS TO THE EDITOR - Wernette has extensive criminal law experience

With the retirement of Judge Donald W. Schacht, it is important that the next Walla Walla County Superior Court judge have extensive criminal and family law experience. Since 80 percent of jury trials in the county are criminal matters, and the vast majority of non-criminal matters are family law related. This is why Carolyn and I are voting for Richard Wernette.

Richard has 26 years of recent experience handling criminal and family law cases. He also has extensive judicial experience having spent the past nine years as a municipal court judge, seven years as a Superior Court commissioner, and 21 years as a District Court judge pro tem.

His reputation of being a strong advocate on behalf of his clients and a fair judge on the bench is well deserved. Having handled cases with Richard on the opposing side I can personally attest to this, as well as his highly ethical behavior and judicial temperament.

If you would like to see an experienced trial lawyer on the bench who can handle complex criminal and family law cases from day one, please join us in voting for Richard Wernette on Aug. 7.
