Linda Louise Marbut Backlund Greathouse went to be with her Lord from her home in Orting, Wash., on July 10, 2012, after a four-year battle with cancer.
She was born Oct. 23, 1943, in Tacoma. The daughter of John and Esther Marbut, she began school in Tacoma, lived briefly in Elgin, Ore., and College Place, and graduated in the class of 1961 from Walla Walla High School. She went to Seattle Pacific College in Seattle and graduated from Western Washington University in Bellingham, where she received her teaching degree.
She was married to Marlon Backlund in 1967 and had three children, Anna Grant, Aimee Backlund and Andy Backlund. She married Donn Greathouse in 1988 and embraced two new children, Mark Greathouse and Pam Mathison.
She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Donn Greathouse; five children and 13 grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Dolores Lockwood of Fremont, Calif., Maureen Maberry of Lynden, Wash., and Kathy Millar of Milton-Freewater. She was predeceased by one brother, Phil Marbut of Sun City, Calif., who died just a few days ago. In addition, she is survived by a host of other loving family and friends.
She treasured her years at Trinity Baptist Church. She had a great love of music and the outdoors. She was blessed to be able to travel extensively in her later years, enjoying it immensely. Most of all she enjoyed being with her family.
A memorial service celebrating Linda's life will be held at Grace Community Church of Auburn, Wash., on Aug. 4, 2012, at 1 p.m., 1320 Auburn Way South, Auburn, WA 98002
In lieu of flowers, Linda requested that donations be given to Grace Community Church's youth program.
