WALLA WALLA -- Blue Mountain Humane Society will celebrate 45 years in the Walla Walla Valley on Thursday with "Bark in the Park" at Borleske Stadium at the Walla Walla Sweets baseball game.

Fans are encouraged to bring their dog on a leash and enjoy the game. A special general admission seating area is planned for such guests. Tickets for the game are $6 for general admission and proceeds from the additional $1 per dog ticket will go to the animal shelter.

A gift will be provided for first 100 dogs to enter the park with their owners and all pets can be photographed with team mascot, Sweet Lou.

Before and during the early part of the game, pets waiting for new homes will be available at Borleske for cuddling and ear-scratching, said Sara Archer, executive director of the Blue Mountain Humane Society.

Through August, adoption prices are discounted by 45 percent -- for 45 years -- and the "Adopt-a-buddy free" program allows adopters to get two pets for the price of one.

On Friday and Saturday this week, all cats and kittens at the shelter can be adopted for $4.50 and all dogs for $45.

The animals are vaccinated, neutered or spayed and micro-chipped for identification.
