My husband just told me that he heard on the radio this morning that the admission to the new proposed pool in Walla Walla would be $7.50 for adults and $5 for kids. That is in addition to the increased taxes for all of us who are property owners.
Having many children, I have been rallying right along for Walla Walla to have its own pool. I used to bring my older kids to Memorial Pool frequently. But at those proposed prices, I will still go to a neighboring city pool like Waitsburg for instance, where admission is $1.50 for adults, kids under 5 are free.
Even the Milton Freewater pool, that is fairly pricey, is a lot cheaper than Walla Walla's proposed pool and for a family of four, five or six those prices add up quickly! One trip to the pool for the family living in my home, would be more than $40.
We need a pool that people can actually afford to bring their kids to! They talked about a "scholarship" program on the radio show, but we would never do that and I am sure that there are many others like me that just won't go at those prices, except for maybe once or twice a summer.
Can't we have a good ol' community pool that is reasonably priced that we can frequent on a hot summer day? I don't know if I can, in good conscience, vote for a pool that will raise our property taxes, yet we still would rarely use because of the high cost.
