COLLEGE PLACE -- The City Council will hold a special meeting today to consider a change order on a street project.
Council members will meet at 5:30 p.m. today at City Hall, 625 S. College Ave.
City Administrator Pat Reay said the change involves having the contractor, Humbert Asphalt, perform additional work called "pre-leveling," on Fourth Street as part of the Larch Avenue-Fourth Street overlay project.
The work is needed because serious problems with the road base were uncovered after the old pavement had been ground off, according to a memo prepared for the council.
If the change is authorized by the council, the contractor will begin the pre-leveling work on Fourth Street on Thursday. Once that is completed, the first lift of asphalt on the portion of Larch Avenue that has been reconstructed will take place. Once all of the small approaches are completed, the contractor will then be able to proceed with the final paving.
