Wa-Hi graduates march into future

Spectators cover their heads as rain begins to fall.

WALLA WALLA - The 120th Walla Walla High School Commencement ceremony took place Friday night on the school's main lawn. About 445 seniors representing the class of 2012 earned diplomas. The title of class valedictorian was shared by students Emily Schueller, Kyle Jameson and Greggory Heller. The class salutatorian was Kayla Leinweber.

In a yearly tradition, the class of 2012 presented a cane that has been passed down from year to year to the class of 2013.

This year marked the first time the ceremony was broadcast live on the Internet, with about 876 people logging in through the night to watch. The celebratory evening included musical performances by the school's band and senior choir members, and an opening Presentation of Colors by the Wa-Hi ROTC Color Guard.

ASB class officers Emma Eskil, Lauren McClanahan and Andrew Hoffman recognized this year's Graduates of Distinction, a program that celebrates the lives and achievements of past Wa-Hi graduates. This year's recipients are Megan Ferguson Clubb, class of 1974; John P. Folsom, class of 1962; and Jill A. Largent, class of 1968.
