Griz maul Milton-Freewater Blazers, 12-9

MILTON-FREEWATER - The Walla Walla Griz sprayed 13 hits and took advantage of seven Milton-Freewater errors here Wednesday at McRae/Ireland Field and defeated the Blazers 12-9 in a Junior American Legion baseball game.

Tyler Anderson pitched the first three innings for the Walla Wallans and also contributed two singles and a double to the Griz' offensive assault. On the mound, Anderson struck out five, allowing three hits and three runs. At the plate he knocked in two runs and scored once.

Blake McKinney also pitched three innings for Walla Walla and was touched for five hits and five runs while fanning four. His lone hit was a two-run single in the third inning.

Colby Watilo doubled and tripled for the Griz, drove home three runs and scored once. Kyle Barker had two singles and scored three times. And Gavin McEvoy tacked on a single and a double, scored twice and drove home two runs.

For M-F, Chase Copenhaver had three singles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Jared Croswell singled twice and drove in a run. And Travis Hodgen contributed a pair of hits and scored four times.

The Griz are now 7-3 on the season and return to action this weekend in their fourth annual tournament. Play begins Friday and concludes Sunday, and games will be played at the Walla Walla Community College diamond, Borleske Stadium and Murr Field.

Walla Walla faces the Blazers in its first tourney game Saturday at 11:45 a.m. at WWCC. The Griz take on the Spokane Crew Saturday at 2:30 p.m., also on the Warriors' campus.
