WALLA WALLA - A Walla Walla Community College educator has been singled out for his work in the school's irrigation program.
Greg Farrens was awarded The Irrigation Foundation's "Excellence in Education Award." He is the first recipient of the award by the foundation, which is the educational arm of the Irrigation Association.
In a release, WWCC spokeswoman Melissa Harrison said Farrens was selected for the award "based on his extensive experience and for his creative curriculum that provides irrigation solutions to protect water and the environment."
Farrens established Walla Walla Community College's two-year accredited Irrigation Technology program in 1977. Students who complete four quarters of college course work and 1,000 hours of industry training receive an Associate's degree of applied arts and sciences in irrigation gechnology.
