Three to graduate Thursday from Corps apprentice program


UMATILLA, Ore. -- Three students, including one from Milton-Freewater, will graduate Thursday from the Walla Walla District's apprentice program.

Based at McNary Lock and Dam near Umatilla, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' program develops trades and crafts journeymen to serve in Walla Walla District hydropower facilities.

The graduates are Jason M. Collins of Kennewick, Tyler A. Shaffer from Milton-Freewater and Phillip Snodgrass, a U.S. Army veteran from Irrigon, Ore.

Collins will work as a power plant electrician at Ice Harbor Dam, Shaffer will work at Little Goose Dam as a power plant mechanic and Snodgrass will work at McNary dam as a power plant electrician.

The graduation ceremony for the students will be at 10 a.m. at McNary Dam.
