Weatherill memorial cycle Saturday in Walla Walla

Members of Wheatland Wheelers Cycling Club will host the seventh annual Ann Weatherill Cycling Classic here Saturday.

The memorial event honors the late Garrison Middle School teacher Ann Weatherill, who died after she was struck by an oncoming motorist during a group bike ride on State Highway 124 between Prescott and Waitsburg on Mother's Day in 2004.

There will be three routes of 30, 62 or 100 miles. All participants must wear a bicycle helmet and are strongly urged to use sunscreen and carry a water bottle.

The 100-mile ride will begin at 7 a.m., the 62-mile ride will start at 8 a.m. and the 30-mile ride will start at 9 a.m.

The $45 entry fee includes the cost of the finish-line celebration. Riders may register before the event at Pioneer Park or online at by searching for Ann Weatherill Cycling Classic.

Proceeds will benefit Blue Mountain Community Foundation's Ann Fund and promote bicycle safety programs in the Walla Walla Valley.
