Motorcyclist killed in US Highway 12 crash

Investigators report a Pasco motorcyclist was killed Saturday afternoon when his bike was blow into the oncoming traffic on Highway 12 and he was struck by two vehicles.

The accident happened west of Nine Mile Hill near Oasis Road around 1:30 p.m.

According to Washington State Patrol, Galen T. Hieb, 60, was eastbound while navigating a right curve on the highway and then pushed across the center line by high winds.

Hieb was sideswiped by an oncoming 2008 Honda Ridgeline driven by Roberto L. Hernandez, 73, of Burbank, which caused the motorcyclist to be ejected from his bike.

Hieb was then struck by a 1998 Ford F150 pickup driven by Harry J. Schmidt, 66, of Benton City.

Emergency personnel reported Hieb was already dead at then scene when they arrived.

Washington State Patrol is still investigation the incident.
