WALLA WALLA - The application period for new private individual dock permits on Lake Wallula open today.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Walla Walla District office will accept the applications through July. Lake Wallula is located behind McNary Lock and Dam.
The McNary Shoreline Management plan allows for a limited number of new private community or individual docks on the shoreline, but only in "Limited Development Areas." Permit applicants must own property adjacent to the shoreline along a Limited Development Area. Other requirements may also apply.
If any new dock permits remain available after July 31, applications for private individual and community dock permits will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
If more applications for new private docks are received than the total number of remaining permits available, then a random lottery drawing will be held by the Corps in August.
Applicants are encouraged to meet with a Corps representative to discuss the requirements and procedure.
Information on dock permit applications is available from Ice Harbor Natural Resources Management at 509-543-6062 or 509-543-6060 or by email at McNarySMP@usace.army.mil.
