Longtime area resident, Marjorie Lou Walters, 93, passed to her rest on February 29, 2012, at Park Manor Rehabilitation Center.
Marjorie was born June 3, 1918, in Sumner, Washington, to Sylvan George and Inez Marie Chesley Smith. She had lived in the Wallula, Touchet and Prosser areas before moving to Walla Walla in 1934. On September 8, 1947, she and Harry Alvin Walters were married by Chaplain L. E. Cousins at the VA Hospital Chapel. For the most of her life, she served as a homemaker, but had previously been employed at Albertson's prior to their fire and in the WaHi Cafeteria. She also enjoyed volunteering at the VA Hospital Gift Shop through the American Legion Auxiliary as well as going fishing with her husband. She was also a member of the Eagles. She enjoyed living in her manufactured home and took great pride in her home and flower garden. Two of her friends were with her the past couple months of her life - Ellie Walker and Evelyn Gibson, because she had no family living close by.

She is survived by two nephews: Ken Smith of Fairfield, Iowa and Howard Smith of Rohnert Park, California; and one great-nephew, Evan Smith of Sonora, California. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, Duane Sylvan Smith.
The graveside service will be 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Blue Mountain Memorial Gardens, 300 SE Myra Road, College Place, Washington. Chaplain Steve Morris will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society through Mountain View- Colonial DeWitt, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla, Washington 99362.
