WALLA WALLA - Walla Walla County Commissioner Perry Dozier has said he will run for a second term this year.
Dozier said he formally announced his intention Saturday night during the county Republican Party's annual Lincoln Day dinner.
Elected in 2008, Dozier replaced retiring commissioner Dave Carey on the board's District 2 seat, which represents much of the eastern portion of the county.
Dozier will run as a Republican candidate for the partisan seat.
A second commissioner on the three-member board, Gregg Loney, has announced he plans to resign his District 1 seat effective April 30.
Because Loney also ran as a Republican, the county Republican Party is in the process of selecting up to three nominees to fill the position when it becomes vacant.
Loney's replacement will be chosen by the remaining two county commissioners when the seat becomes vacant on May 1. If commissioners cannot agree on a choice within 60 days, the choice will fall to the governor.
Whoever is chosen will hold the office until the general election in November. The winner of the election for the Position 1 seat will then take office immediately after the results are certified.
The term of the remaining commissioner, Greg Tompkins who represents District 3, does not expire until 2014.
