PASCO - The Wa-Hi boys battled through stiff winds Monday at the Pasco Invite for a 373 team score at Sun Willows Golf Course, good for a 10th-place finish out of 19 teams at the invite.
Richland took home the team trophy with a team score of 312. Southridge's Daniel Cruzen carded a 71 on the par-72 course to take the individual trophy for the day.
Wa-Hi's Dean Atkinson, a junior, led the Blue Devils with an 83. Nic Atwood carded 90, Cameron Mountain 93. Gunnar Leighty a 107 and Dakota Reiswig a non-counting 107 to round out the Wa-Hi contingent.
The meet included all of the schools from the Columbia Basin Big Nine, as well as two teams from Coeur d'Alene, a team from Cheney and Othello.
"We didn't play very well, but it was first itme out and it was very very windy," Wa-Hi coach Jim Smith said. "So there's room for improvement, let's just say that."
The Blue Devils, who have had only four practices so far, just needed more time on the course, Smith said.
"I think (we need to work on) our overall ball striking," Smith said. "I'm sure our short game needs some work - we didnt have a whole lot of one-puts. Just general green-striking and things like that. We just need time on the course and time on the practice range."
Wa-Hi hits the links Friday at 8 a.m. for the Kennewick Invite at the Tri-City Country Club.
