Walter "Sonny" Johnson
July 10, 1935 - March 3, 2012

Walter E. "Sonny" Johnson lost his battle with cancer on Saturday, March 3, 2012. He was born July 10, 1935, in Redfield, S.D., to John and Fern Johnson. He was a longtime resident of Walla Walla, and also lived throughout the Northwest and Alaska. Walter served in the Air Force as an aviation photographer, stationed in Alaska. He worked most of his life as a Union concrete mason and construction laborer. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed life to the fullest, and was best known for his free spirit, his sense of humor and his generosity toward others.

He is predeceased by his parents; and his brothers, Robert and Douglas Johnson. Surviving him are his children, Lisa Brookshire, Heather Johnson and Douglas Johnson, who all loved him dearly. Also surviving are his sister, Darlene Cox, Seattle; brothers, Wally (Donna) of Spokane and John (Wanda) of Aransas Pass, Texas; grandchildren, Alexandra, Samantha, Ashley, Christian and Alexander; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held in Walla Walla at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Society in Sonny's name would be appreciated.
