FROM A WWPD PRESS RELEASE:
Walla Walla Police Detectives have arrested Daniel D. Dodd, 43, Walla Walla, for the June murder of Kevin A. Myrick, 24. Myrick had been shot in the face in the front yard of his residence on June 12, 2011 at around 10:20 p.m. He died shortly after noon on June 13th.
Dodd's name was mentioned early in the investigation as a possible suspect and was arrested on unrelated warrants on June 16th. He was interviewed at that time about the Myrick homicide, but denied any knowledge of the crime. Dodd remained in the Walla Walla County Jail on the unrelated warrants as the investigation continued.
On July 11th, Dodd escaped from a jail work crew and was apprehended a short time later near the Walla Walla Farmers COOP at Rose Street and 9th Avenue.
Detectives spent the next 8 months sorting out leads and interviewing numerous subjects about the murder. The investigation heated up again this week when one of the subjects led law enforcement to the disposal site of the gun believed used in the homicide. The revolver was recovered by the Columbia Basin Dive & Rescue Team from the Snake River, near the Highway 12 overpass in Burbank, WA.
A Probable Cause Affidavit for Murder 1st Degree was issued for Dodd. He will have his first appearance on the charge Friday in Walla Walla County Superior Court.
